What does a terminal box do?

Terminal Box is a core device for connecting, protecting and distributing lines in electrical systems. It is widely used in industries such as industry, construction, and energy. It achieves safe and reliable electrical connections through modular design, and has the ability to protect against external environmental interference.
 
1. Appearance Features
Compact design
Usually a rectangular or square box, the size can be flexibly adjusted according to the application scenario (for example, the side length of a small building junction box may be only 10cm, and the industrial motor junction box can reach more than 30cm).
The surface is smooth and the corners are rounded to reduce the risk of mechanical damage during installation.
 
Standardized interface
The outside is equipped with multiple wiring holes or threaded interfaces, which support direct cable insertion or connection through connectors.
Some models are equipped with a transparent observation window for quick inspection of the internal wiring status.
 
Protection mark
The shell of products with high protection levels (such as IP66/67) is marked with waterproof and dustproof symbols, and explosion-proof products are affixed with Ex certification marks.
The voltage level is distinguished by color in the terminal area (such as red for high voltage and blue for low voltage).

Shell
Main frame: adopts one-piece molding process to ensure structural strength.
Sealing system: The silicone seal surrounds the edge of the box and is equipped with a die-cast cover to achieve IP66 protection.
Mounting bracket: The metal model is equipped with an adjustable angle bracket to support wall, column or equipment surface installation.
 
Internal components
Terminal block: Made of copper alloy or nickel-plated steel, it supports 2-24 wire connections, and the terminal spacing is customized according to the current load (such as 50mm spacing terminals for high-power equipment).
Grounding device: Built-in yellow-green two-color grounding screw, in accordance with IEC 60364 standard.
Accessory module: Optional surge protector, current transformer or signal converter to achieve functional expansion.
 
3. Material characteristics
Metal material
Aluminum alloy: Excellent conductivity (conductivity ≥ 35% IACS), strong corrosion resistance, commonly used in harsh environments such as chemical industry and ships.
Stainless steel: Tensile strength of 520MPa, suitable for high vibration scenarios (such as subway tunnels).
 
Plastic material
ABS+PC alloy: Impact resistance is 3 times higher than pure ABS, and it still maintains toughness at low temperatures of -20℃.
Polyester (PBT): Flame retardant grade reaches UL94 V-0, can withstand high temperature of 155℃, suitable for photovoltaic inverter wiring.
 
Special coating
The inner wall of explosion-proof products is sprayed with a conductive oxide layer to prevent static electricity accumulation from causing explosion.
Anti-UV additives are added to the outer surface of outdoor models to delay plastic aging (extending the service life to more than 15 years).

Industrial field
Motor control: Connect the power line of the three-phase asynchronous motor and support 380V/660V voltage input.
Automated production line: Integrated PLC signal interface to realize data transmission between devices (such as sensor and actuator connection).
Energy management: In the photovoltaic system, the junction box collects the DC power output by the solar panel to the inverter.

Lighting system: Allocate floor lighting circuits and support parallel connection of LED drivers.

5. Selection and maintenance recommendations
Selection principles
When the ambient temperature exceeds 55°C, metal junction boxes are preferred.
For scenarios where the vibration frequency is greater than 10Hz, spring-type terminal blocks are used instead of screws for fixing.
 
Maintenance specifications
Use a megohmmeter to test the insulation resistance every quarter (standard value > 100MΩ).
Check the oxidation of the terminals every year, and replace discolored or burned terminal lugs in time.
